Development, Influence, Artisitc Style
With high motivation and strong passion Nguyen Van Hai always wants to develop further in his abilities, skills and knowledge`s in art. He decided to move to the South in 1994 where he met two national acclaimed artists such as Do Xuan Doan and Le Ngoc Linh. Do Xuan Doan was a student of Nguyen Gia Tri (1909-1993). From these artists, Nguyen Van Hai learned and developed his new techniques in lacquer. Nguyen Gia Tri was best known for his mastery of lacquer painting, and generally acknowledged as the artist who had the greatest impact on the direction of lacquer painting.
Country girls, simple life, houses in the country side, landscapes and flowers are the main themes of Nguyen Van Hai`s lacquer paintings. Especially his warm earth colours are very calmative to the body and mind.
Nguyen Van Hai, a 1992 graduate from the National University of Education in Hanoi, is from the younger generation working with lacquer.
